I just felt I wanted to paint an early bird, the kind that gets up before any of us and sees a twilight world of colour and beauty!

Now – not sure you can see it or not, the first thing I did was line my canvas with Gypsum, painted it black and let it dry overnight.
Next I laminated a bird shape sketch, masking taped over the bird – making sure to overlap the tape in a specific direction for later peeling in one go ;).
I then used the back side of the laminated sheet – which visually shows the sketch still, and cut the bird out.
I did this to make sure that I had a single piece of tape in the intended shape.
Next was the finicky task of peeling the tape off without malforming or ripping it! And believe me – the frustration is real!!
Once I had the tape I placed it where I needed and then painted my blend of colours.
I love blending, its my favourite thing in painting – especially when I do a big reveal in live painting sessions!
Finally after the blended layer dried I painted in my branch and peeled away the bird with some anxiety!
The result was okay and I am happy with it! Enjoy 🙂
